“If your photographs aren’t good enough, then you’re not close enough.” - Robert Capa
It’s this sentiment that led us to believe the photographers who go to wild and untamed places are not so different from the prospectors we outfitted a century ago. Individuals driven to visit and explore a frontier of sorts, where uncertainty is guaranteed, where lasting quality is required. The kind that is made at Filson, USA.

Liverano & Liverano

The beauty of the artisan is often that the environment has so shaped and influenced the aesthetics and function to become a postcard of another world. Whether it is the quiet sobriety of an English Oak umbrella, or the mossy smoke of an Orkney Whisky, without the insular nature of some of the worlds great crafts, we would have a bland and generic choice indeed.
But it is rare that we get to have something crafted for us by the hands that helped establish that style - the artisans are too few and the enthusiasts ever growing.
After 62 years of striking and cutting, however, Antonio Liverano is a rare artisan. Having started the trade at the age of 12 working with his older brother, Antonio has come to be recognized as the benchmark for Sartoria of the Florentine school.
A beautiful, refined city, equally with one foot in the countryside and one foot at the doorstep of some of the most revered art and thinking in the world, the style of Florentine tailoring is just as refined. A broad shouldered cut with sweeping lines from lapel to quarters, the Florentine style eschews the exaggeration of Naples and the fashion of Milan. It is a suit to wear because it comes naturally to dress well, and without ostentation. Rich vintage sharkskins and rough tweeds give a subtle nod to a reverence for English tailoring, but the cut itself is soft and flowing.
We are again fortunate to be hosting Antonio in store this month from the 25th until the 27th  23rd through the 26th. Taking measurements for suits, sportcoats, shirting and outerwear, Antonio’s coveted book of vintage cloths are limited. Email us at info@thearmoury.com to secure an appointment.

Liverano in Hong Kong -  23rd through the 26th!

Three Pieces
Liverano & Liverano Bespoke

My last, for now, trunk show with Liverano & Liverano at The Armoury Hong Kong is coming up in a few weeks - from the 23rd through the 26th of July. A few days later, on the 31st, I will work my last day, hand in my keys and depart for the next chapter of my life. My career has had many chapters, none more or less significant, but every stage is an education, every challenge a teacher.
I have been so privileged to have worked with Antonio and his team these past few years, and I have learnt a tremendous amount from them. Antonio’s experience is second to none, more than sixty years making Florentine garments, shaping the Florentine aesthetic that future generations will know. His contribution to his craft deserves more than I could ever bestow upon him, but I vote with my dollars and commission more tweeds and flannels that Hong Kong won’t let me wear.
If you are in Hong Kong this month, and are passionate about craft and history, come by The Armoury and meet Antonio. Order a coat, or a tweed jacket, or a three piece suit. Take home a copy of ‘I colori di Antonio’ - the picture above was taken during the filming of it, as my terrible moustache can testify. Order something old, and heavy, a piece for sitting on cold stone steps in Florence in the winter. I will thank you myself, and you will thank me every time you wear it, for many years to come.
